Not lots of people know this, but rice water can be extremely beneficial for your hair. Some of its hair benefits are: helps remove dandruff, stimulate hair growth, and strengthen the strands, as well as improving the overall appearance of your hair. Rice water is rich in vitamins, such as B and C, and trace elements, such as zinc, potassium, iodine, magnesium, manganese, selenium, and a lot of fiber.
There are two options for making rice water for your hair:
This method is easier and quicker to make and it can be helpful for those that don’t have much time on their hands. This recipe though isn’t as concentrated as the boiled rice water, which you can read next.
Soaked rice water for hair
– take one cup of regular, uncooked rice
– rinse it with water to get the unwanted dirt out
– add 2-3 glasses of water to the rice and let it sit
– after 30 minutes, strain the rice water into a bowl
Boiled rice water for hair
– take one cup of uncooked rice
– cook the rice in one cup of boiling water
– before use, strain the rice into a clean bowl
This liquid will be very concentrated once strained and you can dilute it with water to use in your hair. The dilution depends on your hair length and the greasiness of your strands, but it is usually the ratio of 1:10.
The fermentation balances out the PH of the water to the Ph level of the hair and it is great nourishment because the vitamins in the rice water penetrate into the scalp and hair structure.
Rice water can also be used as a conditioner, by diluting it and applying to wet clean hair, and massaging the scalp for 5-10 minutes, and rinsing it out afterward. For additional moisture and nourishment, you can add a few drops of essential oil, such as lavender, rosemary, and geranium.
It can also be used as shampoo, by mixing the rice water with flour and letting it brew on low temperature for 5-10 minutes.
Possible side effects of rice water hair rinse
The rice water rinse can be drying for some people, so people with dry scalp should not overuse it. It is recommended that you use rice water on your hair not more than once/twice a week. You can store it in the refrigerator and you should always shake it before use.
