12 Healthy Snacks Ideas For Work
Having three big meals a day might work for some people, but for most of us it’s better to have smaller meals and snacks in between to keep our energy up throughout the day. With the amount of pre-packaged snacks available in every shop and on every corner it’s easy to slip into bad habits and snack on chocolates and chips, but we know that it’s not good for our health, or energy and our general well being. So to keep the temptation away, we compiled a list of healthy snacks, some homemade and some store bought, that you can bring with you to work.
1. Snack Jars
These easy grab and go snack jars are a lifesaver for those of you who just needs to snack throughout the day and will eat anything they find. So instead of grabbing that cookie or a pack of chips you can prepare these snack jars ahead of time (it’ll only take a couple of minutes) and grab them from the fridge on the way to work.
2. Yogurt and Fruit
Another easy option is just having some yogurt with fruit. You can even buy both ingredients in the store next to work. The key here is to buy those two ingredients separately. Plain yogurt or maybe even a little tub of Greek yogurt and some fruit or berries. Don’t be a victim of advertising and don’t buy those sweet fruity yogurts – they’re just full of sugar and aren’t good for you.
3. Popcorn
If you like having something crunchy as a snack – popcorn might be a good option. But make sure you either but air popped popcorn or make it at home before and bring a portion with you. You don’t want that buttery kind coated in yellow dust that’s meant to be cheese – it’s full of trans fats and can be quite calorific.
4. Raw Nuts
Another crunchy option is a handful of raw nuts. They’re full of healthy fats and protein, they’re good for your health and they will keep you full longer. However, portion control is essential with nuts, because it’s easy to overeat with them. We suggest you have a small handful at a time and then give yourself half an hour to see if you feel full. Chances are you will.
5. Apples and Peanut Butter
Eating an apple whole might feel a bit awkward in the office, plus it might seem like a very boring snack. But if you cut it into slices and dip it into some peanut butter – it becomes the best snack ever.
6. Dark Chocolate
When you’re craving something sweet there’s nothing wrong with having a bit of chocolate, but try to go for dark chocolate. Something with at least 70% cacao or higher. Chocolate is actually a good source of magnesium which is great for stress management.
7. Roasted Chickpeas
You can make these at home and it’ll be a very filling and cheap snack. Plus, if you actually make them yourself you get to customize the flavor by adding whichever spices you prefer be it some chilly or smoked paprika or maybe some Mediterranean herbs.
